Massey Ferguson 04.02.49 – TRANS: Transmission Filter Blockage Sensor Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
The sensor monitoring the transmission/hydraulic oil filter is either detecting a restriction in fluid flow (a blocked filter) or the sensor itself/its circuit is malfunctioning and sending an erratic signal.

Check the cause
Check fluid temperature — allow the tractor to reach normal operating temperature to rule out false warnings caused by cold, highly viscous oil.
Inspect the filter for debris — look closely for metal shavings or fibrous material, which can indicate internal brake discs have worn down to the metal.
Inspect sensor wiring — check the harness and connector on the right-hand side of the gearbox for corrosion, breaks, or loose connections.
Repair steps
Warm Up the Tractor
Run the machine until the transmission fluid is warm to rule out cold-oil viscosity issues.
Drain the Fluid
If the code remains, place a clean drain pan under the transmission and drain the hydraulic/transmission fluid.
Remove and Replace the Filter
Unscrew the transmission/hydraulic filter housing. If heavy brake material or metal filings are found, stop—the entire rear-end system will need to be flushed, and the brakes must be replaced before operating the tractor again. If the filter is just normally dirty, proceed to replace it with a new OEM filter.
Test the Sensor
If replacing the filter does not clear the 04.02.49 code, the sensor itself is likely faulty.
Replace the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical harness from the blockage sensor. Unthread the sensor from the transmission/filter housing block. Install the new sensor, being careful not to overtighten, and reconnect the wiring harness.
Refill Fluid
Refill the transmission with the correct specification of Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO).
Clear Codes
Cycle the ignition and test the tractor under load to ensure the fault code does not return.
