Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the Autotronic 5 transmission controller and the L52 Range 1 solenoid valve for chafing, breaks (open circuit), or shorts to ground (0 V) or power (+12 V)

  2. Test the resistance of the L52 solenoid coil with a multimeter to verify it has not failed internally

  3. Verify the operation of the Range 1 switch (L56) to ensure consistency between the physical switch state and the solenoid valve state

Repair steps

  1. Locate valve block

Locate the transmission valve block on the side of the gearbox housing. The range solenoids are grouped together (L52 for Range 1, L53 for Range 2, L54 for Range 3, and L55 for Range 4).

  2. Clean area

Thoroughly clean the area around the valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the L52 Range 1 solenoid valve.

  4. Remove screws and flange

Remove the retaining screws and the flange holding the solenoid valve in place.

  5. Extract valve

Extract the faulty L52 solenoid valve from the housing.

  6. Install new valve

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid and insert it into the valve block.

  7. Reinstall flange

Reinstall the flange and tighten the retaining screws.

  8. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes using the tractor's onboard diagnostic display or a diagnostic tool.
