Massey Ferguson 04.02.64 – TRANS: Transmission Turbo Clutch Solenoid Voltage Supply Issue
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short circuit, or an out-of-range voltage—in the power supply circuit feeding the turbo clutch solenoid valve. This solenoid controls the hydraulic flow required for clutch engagement and transmission operation. When it fails or loses power, the tractor may experience harsh clutch engagement, failure to shift, or a complete loss of drive.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the turbo clutch solenoid for corrosion, damaged pins, or broken wires.
Use a multimeter to verify that the TRANS module is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid connector when the key is on or the clutch is actuated.
Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil itself. A healthy transmission solenoid coil typically measures around 10 Ohms. If it reads open or shorted, the coil has failed internally.
Ensure the transmission/hydraulic fluid is clean and at the proper level. Contaminated fluid can cause the mechanical valve portion of the solenoid to stick, which can mimic an electrical fault or cause premature coil failure.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, disconnect the battery, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the turbo clutch solenoid valve on the transmission hydraulic valve block.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the solenoid.
Removal
Remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid coil and valve body. Carefully pull the valve out of the transmission housing. Have a catch pan ready, as some residual hydraulic fluid will leak out.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new valve into the block and tighten the retaining hardware to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical wiring harness to the new solenoid.
Testing
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and check the transmission fluid level. Inspect the new valve for leaks, clear the 04.02.64 fault code from the TRANS module, and test the tractor's clutch engagement and shifting.
