Massey Ferguson 04.02.6A – TRANS1: Issue With Range 4 Solenoid Valve (TRANS1)

The transmission controller has detected an electrical fault in the circuit for the Range 4 solenoid valve (L55). This fault is triggered by an open circuit, a short circuit to +12V or 0V (Ground), or an internal component failure within the solenoid itself.

   Attempt a system reset by moving the PowerControl lever to the neutral position, then press and release the clutch pedal

   Check the transmission controller fuses, specifically F4 and F29, which supply power to the transmission circuits

   Inspect the electrical connector at the Range 4 solenoid valve (L55) for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins

   Trace the wiring harness from the L55 solenoid back to the Autotronic 5 controller to check for chafing, open circuits, or shorts

   Measure the resistance of the L55 solenoid valve coil using a multimeter (a healthy coil should read approximately 9.7 to 10 Ohms at ambient temperature)

   Check the current draw when the solenoid valve is commanded active by the controller (should draw approximately 1 Amp)

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Locate solenoid valve

   Locate the Range 4 solenoid valve (L55) on the right-hand side of the transmission control block.

   Clean area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission's hydraulic circuit.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the L55 solenoid.

   Remove retaining screws and flange

   Remove the retaining screws and the flange holding the solenoid valve in place.

   Extract solenoid valve

   Extract the faulty solenoid valve.

   Install new solenoid valve

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid and insert it into the control block.

   Reinstall flange

   Reinstall the flange and tighten the retaining screws to the manufacturer's torque specifications.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Reconnect battery and test

    Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool (like Jaltest AGV or Wintest), and test drive the tractor to ensure Range 4 engages properly without triggering the code.
