Massey Ferguson 04.02.6E – TRANS1: Issue With Range 4 Engaged Switch Signal (TRANS1)

The transmission control system is receiving an irregular, missing, or out-of-bounds signal from the sensor/switch responsible for confirming that the transmission has successfully engaged Range 4.

   Verify symptoms: Check if the tractor refuses to shift between ranges or refuses to move altogether, which are primary symptoms of a failed range switch or solenoid.

   Locate the bank of four range change solenoids and their corresponding switches on the side of the transmission. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for the Range 4 switch for corrosion, breaks, or loose connections.

   Check for accompanying codes, such as 04.02.98, which would indicate a combined failure of both the switch and the solenoid.

   Attempt a transmission calibration to see if the TRANS1 module can re-learn the range positions (raise engine speed to 1500 RPM, raise the PowerShuttle arm, and simultaneously hold the differential lock switch).

   Locate the Switch

   Find the electronic range change solenoid and switch bank on the side of the transmission housing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the Range 4 position switch.

   Remove

   Unscrew the faulty range switch from the transmission block. Have a catch pan ready in case of minor hydraulic oil seepage.

   Install

   Thread the new OEM transmission range position switch into the port and tighten to factory specifications.

   Reconnect & Test

   Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the 04.02.6E fault code from the TRANS1 module, and test drive the tractor to ensure it shifts smoothly into Range 4.
