Check the cause
Physical Inspection: Check the C2 button for physical damage, sticking, or lack of tactile feedback. Agricultural environments often lead to dirt, dust, or liquid spills jamming the micro-switches in the armrest.
Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness underneath the armrest console. Ensure the connector for the C2 button is securely plugged in and that the numbered wires are not pinched or frayed.
Continuity Testing: Use a multimeter to test the switch. Verify if the circuit closes when the button is pressed and opens when released. If it reads as a closed circuit constantly, the button is stuck internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the switch
Carefully remove the casing of the Command Control armrest or the faceplate of the multifunction joystick (depending on your specific cab configuration) to expose the internal switches.
Disconnect the harness
Unplug the specific wire connector routed to the C2 button.
Remove the switch
Unclip or unbolt the faulty C2 switch from its mounting bracket.
Install the new part
Seat the new C2 button into the console or joystick and reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reassemble the armrest console, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's Datatronic/Setup & Information Screen to clear the 04.02.71 fault code. Test the C2 cruise function during a test drive to ensure the transmission responds correctly.
Parts you might need
(1)Cruise Speed C2 Button / Switch OR Multifunction Joystick / Armrest Console Assembly
Individual cruise buttons can often be sourced directly from a Massey Ferguson dealer's parts counter and plug directly into the pre-numbered wiring harness under the console. If the switch is soldered or integrated, the entire Multifunction Joystick or Armrest Console Assembly may be required.
