04.02.86

Massey Ferguson 04.02.86 – TRANS: Transmission High Pressure Sensor Signal Voltage Issue

Issue description

The electronic control system is receiving an abnormal voltage signal (either too high, too low, or an open/short circuit) from the transmission's high-pressure sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission high-pressure sensor for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to verify the supply voltage to the sensor (often an 8.5V or 5V reference depending on the exact sensor/transmission variant) and check the signal wire for a short to ground or short to power.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the ParkLock or hand brake. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure if required by the service manual.

  2. Replacement

Locate the transmission high-pressure sensor on the transmission valve block/housing. Disconnect the electrical harness, unthread the faulty sensor, and install the new OEM sensor.

  3. Mandatory Calibration

A transmission calibration must be carried out systematically after changing the transmission high pressure sensor. Ensure preliminary conditions are met: Hand brake applied or ParkLock engaged, Power Control lever in the neutral position, and High/low speed range (Hare/Tortoise) in neutral. Note: The calibration must be performed immediately after the range calibration is completed.

  4. Clear Codes

Clear the 04.02.86 fault code from the TRANS module and test drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
