04.02.ED

Massey Ferguson 04.02.ED – TRANS (Transmission Control Module / Transmission Internal Software): Clutch Pedal Not Calibrated

Issue description

The transmission controller has lost the learned minimum and maximum travel values for the clutch pedal potentiometer/sensor, or a calibration was never successfully completed. When this code is active, the tractor may experience harsh or "jumpy" clutch engagement, delayed direction changes, or a complete lack of shuttle response.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the transmission gear oil is preheated to at least 50°C (122°F), as calibration will fail if cold.

  2. Inspect the clutch pedal switch and potentiometer for physical damage, loose mounting hardware, or disconnected wiring.

  3. Ensure pre-calibration conditions are met: tractor on flat ground, handbrake firmly applied, PTO disengaged, hand throttle at idle, and shuttle control lever in Neutral (N).

Repair steps

  1. Warm up transmission

Start the engine and warm up the transmission oil to at least 50°C. You can aid warming by engaging the PTO and cycling the PowerShuttle forward and reverse.

  2. Set pre-calibration conditions

Secure the vehicle with the handbrake, disengage the PTO, set the throttle to idle, and place the shuttle lever in Neutral.

  3. Enter service menu

Enter the dashboard service menu by pressing and holding the main menu button (often designated as button 'A').

  4. Navigate to calibration

Use the arrow buttons (B, C) to navigate the menu until the arrow indicator points to the Clutch pedal calibration (or CALIBRATION) option.

  5. Select calibration

Press the (A) button to select it. The screen will verify 'TEMPERATURE >50 °C' and 'HANDBRAKE'.

  6. Perform pedal stroke

Follow the on-screen prompts to fully depress and release the clutch pedal to teach the module the stroke limits.

  7. Verify success

If successful, the display will show 'OK' in the bottom corner.

  8. Replace sensor if failed

If an anomalous condition is detected during the process, the display will flash an error code (often a 'U' code) indicating the calibration failed, which usually points to a faulty sensor that must be replaced.
