04.02.EE

Massey Ferguson 04.02.EE – TRANS: Transmission Calibration Issue

Issue description

This code indicates that the transmission has lost its calibration parameters, the calibration was interrupted, or the transmission software requires a relearn procedure to ensure smooth shifting and shuttle operation.

Applies to these machines

  • 7714
  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716
  • 7716S
  • 7718
  • 7718S
  • 7719
  • 7720
  • 7720S
  • 7722
  • 7722S
  • 7724
  • 7724S
  • 7726
  • 7726S
  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)
  • 7600

Check the cause

  1. Position the tractor on completely flat, level ground

  2. Check transmission fluid temperature via Dash Control Center Diagnostic Screen 1 (must be between 35°C/95°F and 45°C/113°F)

  3. Warm up components through normal operation or by engaging the PTO if the fluid is cold

  4. Cycle the PowerShuttle lever forward and reverse 10 times in each direction for 5 to 10 seconds to warm up the control unit and solenoid valves

  5. Zero out PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) on the left-hand dash screen

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Tractor

Disengage the PTO, place the transmission in neutral, and release the parking brake. Ensure the front axle and differential lock are disengaged.

  2. Set Engine RPM

Raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM) using the hand throttle.

  3. Initiate Calibration Mode

Raise the PowerShuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there. Simultaneously, press and hold the differential lock switch.

  4. Wait for Prompt

Hold both controls for approximately 3 to 10 seconds until the right-hand transmission gear screen on the dash displays "Ct" (Calibration Mode).

  5. Start Calibration

Once "Ct" is displayed, simply push the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position. The calibration will begin automatically.

  6. Allow Process to Complete

The calibration takes approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously display "Ct", and it is completely normal to hear the transmission shifting gears and making hydraulic noises during this time.

  7. Verify Completion

Once finished, the right-hand screen will stop displaying "Ct" and will show the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., "1A/2A").

  8. Save the Settings

Place the PowerShuttle back into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off to confirm and save the new changes to the TRANS module.

  9. Test Drive

Restart the tractor and drive it back and forth. Perform various maneuvers (neutral to forward, forward to reverse) to validate that the shifting is smooth and the 04.02.EE code has cleared.
