Massey Ferguson 04.02.F1 – TRANS: Transmission Calibration Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission system (specifically the Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 transmission) has lost its calibration parameters, failed a recent calibration attempt, or requires a clutch/PowerShuttle calibration to operate smoothly. Symptoms usually include jerky shifting, especially when using the reverse shuttle.

Check the cause
Verify transmission oil temperature is strictly between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) via the Dash Control Center on diagnostic screen 1.
Cycle the PowerShuttle lever (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5 to 10 seconds to warm up the control unit and solenoid valves.
Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) all to '0' on the left-hand dash screen.
Ensure the differential lock and front axle (4WD) are completely disengaged to prevent interference with the calibration process.
Repair steps
Position tractor
Position the tractor on completely flat ground.
Prepare tractor for calibration
Disengage the PTO, place the tractor in neutral, and release the parking brake.
Set engine speed
Raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM) using the hand throttle.
Initiate calibration sequence
Raise the PowerShuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.
Hold controls
Hold both for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand instrument panel (transmission gear screen) displays 'Ct'.
Begin calibration
Once 'Ct' is displayed, push the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin the calibration.
Wait for calibration
The calibration process takes approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously show 'Ct', and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.
Verify completion
Once complete, the right-hand screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A' or '1E/2E').
Save settings
Place the PowerShuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off to confirm and save the new changes.
Validate settings
Restart the tractor and validate the settings by driving back and forth using a variety of maneuvers to ensure shifting is smooth.
