Massey Ferguson 04.03.06 – TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor (TRANS)

The control unit is receiving an electrical signal from the foot throttle pedal potentiometer that falls outside of the acceptable operating range (drops below 0.5V or exceeds 4.5V). When this occurs, the tractor may default to a limited operating mode, reducing engine speed to idle or a safe speed to prevent unintended acceleration.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the foot throttle sensor and its wiring harness at the base of the pedal for physical damage, micro-cracks, or degraded solder joints.

   Voltage Supply Check: Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference supply voltage from the control module. A supply voltage that is too low (< 4.6V) or too high (> 5.2V) will trigger sensor errors.

   Signal Circuit Check: Test the signal wire between the foot throttle sensor and the Transmission module for continuity. Ensure the wire is not shorted to ground or shorted to power.

   Sensor Sweep Test: Monitor the sensor's signal voltage while slowly depressing the pedal. The voltage should scale smoothly. Erratic readings, dropouts, or dead spots indicate a failed potentiometer.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle sensor assembly attached to the throttle pedal linkage inside the cab.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the sensor to the pedal bracket.

   Installation

   Mount the new foot throttle sensor into position and secure the hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery. Calibrate the new throttle pedal sensor using the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or via the tractor's dashboard MFA (multifunction armrest) calibration menu so the system can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage parameters.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the inactive 04.03.06 fault code from the TRANS module and test drive the tractor to ensure normal throttle response is restored.
