Massey Ferguson 04.03.14 – TRANS1: Reverse Clutch Solenoid Low Amps

The transmission controller continuously measures the current draw from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the current draw falls below a specified limit, the controller logs this fault. This condition typically indicates that the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has lost its power supply.

   Visually inspect the reverse clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block, checking the electrical connector and pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

   Test the wiring harness between the TRANS1 controller and the reverse clutch solenoid using a multimeter for continuity, open circuits, or a short to ground.

   Verify the solenoid is receiving the correct voltage when the reverse clutch is commanded to energize.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the reverse clutch solenoid coil to check for an internal open or short.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Access the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (on some models, you may need to remove an access panel in the cab floor to reach the upper solenoid valves).

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the reverse clutch solenoid. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the transmission. Unbolt and remove the solenoid valve from the transmission housing.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place. Reinstall any access panels or covers.

   Calibration

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. After replacing transmission clutch solenoids, a transmission/clutch calibration procedure must be performed to ensure smooth shifting and engagement.
