Massey Ferguson 04.03.22 – TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor (TRANS)

The signal voltage being sent from the foot throttle pedal position sensor (potentiometer) to the control module is out of the expected operating range. Typically, this means the voltage is reading too high (above 4.5V) or too low (below 0.5V), which causes the system to limit throttle response or inhibit RPM requests for safety.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the foot throttle pedal assembly for physical damage, debris blocking the pedal travel, or a loose sensor mounting.

   Wiring and Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the foot throttle sensor to the Transmission Control Unit. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corroded/loose pins in the connector.

   Voltage Test: Using a multimeter, back-probe the sensor connector while the key is ON (engine off). Verify the reference voltage (usually 5V) and the ground. Then, sweep the pedal and monitor the signal voltage. It should smoothly transition between approximately 0.5V and 4.5V without dropping out or spiking.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle sensor potentiometer, which is mounted directly to the throttle pedal assembly in the cab.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the sensor to the pedal assembly.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement foot throttle sensor in the correct orientation and secure the fasteners.

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool / FenDias) to the tractor's diagnostic port. Clear the stored 04.03.22 fault code. You may need to run a throttle pedal calibration routine so the TRANS module can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values of the replacement sensor.
