Massey Ferguson 04.03.23 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Cruise Control Button Signal Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the transmission controller is receiving an invalid, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the cruise control buttons (typically the C1/C2 cruise speed controls). This prevents the operator from setting or adjusting the tractor's cruise speed.

Check the cause
Inspect the C1/C2 cruise control buttons for physical damage, sticking, or debris. Depending on cab package, these are on the right-hand console's T-Lever or integrated into the multifunction loader joystick.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the joystick/console and the Transmission Controller. Look for pinched wires, loose pins, or corrosion.
Use a multimeter to test the cruise control switch for proper operation. Verify momentary continuity when pressed and that it breaks the circuit when released.
Use a diagnostic tool to check for other CAN BUS or transmission codes (such as 04.1.A2 CAN BUS Message Missing) that might indicate a broader communication failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Switch
Carefully remove the trim or cover on the right-hand console or the multifunction joystick handle to expose the internal wiring and switch housing.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector attached to the faulty cruise control switch.
Remove the Switch
Depress the retaining clips or remove the mounting screws holding the switch in place, and pull the switch out of the console or joystick housing.
Install the New Part
Insert the replacement cruise control switch until it clicks into place or secure it with the screws. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassemble
Snap the console trim or joystick cover back into its original position.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on, clear the 04.03.23 DTC using a diagnostic tool or the onboard setup and information screen (SIS), and test the C1/C2 cruise control functions during a test drive to ensure the issue is resolved.
Parts you might need
(1)Cruise Control Switch (C1/C2) / Multifunction Joystick Assembly
A specific standalone OEM part number for the button alone is not universally cataloged online. You will need to provide your dealer with your tractor's serial number to order the correct console switch or replacement joystick handle.
