Massey Ferguson 04.03.2C – TRANS (Transmission Control Unit / Autotronic Module): Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Issue
Issue description
A malfunction or implausible electrical signal coming from the Power Control lever (the forward/reverse shuttle lever) mounted on the left side of the steering column. The system may be detecting multiple switch signals simultaneously, an open circuit, or a voltage out of range.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness (X56) running down the steering column from the lever for chafed wires, pinched cables, or loose connector pins.
Test the switch signals using a multimeter or dealer diagnostic tool (Wintest) to verify the electrical signals from the lever. Check if the controller sees multiple directional signals simultaneously or no signal at all.
Check for related fault codes such as 04.03.2D, 04.03.2E, or 04.03.2F, which also point to the Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent short circuits or accidental transmission engagement.
Remove Steering Column Shrouds
Remove the plastic covers/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the Power Control lever.
Disconnect the Lever
Locate the electrical connector at the base of the lever's pigtail harness (typically a multi-pin plug) and disconnect it.
Unbolt the Assembly
Remove the mounting screws or bolts securing the lever assembly to the steering column bracket.
Install the New Part
Mount the new Power Control lever to the column and tighten the fasteners.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the new lever's connector into the main steering column harness.
Reassemble and Test
Reinstall the steering column shrouds, reconnect the battery, and clear the stored DTCs from the transmission module. Start the tractor and test the forward, neutral, reverse, and de-clutch functions to ensure the transmission responds correctly.
