Massey Ferguson 04.03.56 – TRANS: Transmission Filter Blockage Sensor Issue

The onboard diagnostic system has detected an irregularity, signal error, or malfunction specifically related to the sensor responsible for monitoring the transmission/hydraulic oil filter for blockages (Sensor X20). The sensor itself is sending a faulty signal, has a wiring issue, or is being triggered by a genuinely clogged filter.

   Check transmission/hydraulic oil fluid levels and condition for heavy contamination, metal filings, or degraded oil

   Inspect the transmission filter to see if it is genuinely blocked or due for its 1200-hour service interval

   Test Sensor X20 (Transmission filter blockage sensor) and inspect its wiring harness and connector for corrosion, loose connections, or broken wires

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

   Locate the transmission filter and the Transmission Filter Blockage Sensor (X20).

   Typically mounted on the side of the gearbox/transmission housing.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from Sensor X20 and inspect the pins for damage or debris.

   If the filter is suspected to be blocked or is due for a service interval, place a drain pan underneath, remove the old transmission filter, and install a new genuine Massey Ferguson filter.

   Top up the transmission fluid with approved Massey Ferguson hydraulic/transmission fluid to replace any lost during the filter change.

   If the filter is clean but the sensor is confirmed faulty, unscrew Sensor X20 from the housing and install a new replacement sensor.

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the sensor.

   Start the tractor and check for leaks around the filter and sensor housing.

   Use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 04.03.56 DTC from the TRANS module.
