04.03.58

Massey Ferguson 04.03.58 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Possible Transmission Slippage Detected

Issue description

Triggered when the onboard diagnostic system detects that the transmission is slipping, often accompanied by code 04.03.59. In Dyna-6 transmissions, this can be flagged if slippage exceeds 10% for more than 700 ms between engine speed and intermediate speed.

Check the cause

  1. Verify transmission fluid levels and inspect hydraulic/transmission filters for blockages or contamination.

  2. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) by viewing the DOT MATRIX screen in diagnostic mode.

  3. Perform a warm-up cycle by engaging the PTO and activating the PowerShuttle (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5-10 seconds to warm up the control units and solenoid valves.

  4. For Dyna-6 models: Inspect the transmission range change solenoids on the side of the transmission and their linked switches for failures.

  5. For Dyna-VT models: Check the hydrostat actuator motor using a 2.5mm Allen key to turn the adjustment mechanism left and right; it should return to neutral on its own.

Repair steps

  1. Perform Transmission Calibration

Position the tractor on flat ground, apply the hand brake, and start the engine. With the transmission fluid warmed to 35°C–45°C, initiate the automatic calibration procedure via the diagnostic screen.

  2. Replace Filters and Fluid

If the fluid is degraded or filters are clogged, drain the transmission fluid and replace the hydraulic/transmission filters.

  3. Replace Faulty Solenoids/Valves

If calibration fails or the tractor refuses to shift ranges properly, replace the transmission range change solenoids or electrovalves on the side of the transmission.

  4. Clear Codes

After replacing components and successfully calibrating the transmission, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.03.58 DTC from the Transmission ECU.
