Massey Ferguson 04.03.61 – TRANS1 (Autotronic 5): Issue With Low Speed Range Solenoid / Issue With Range 1 Solenoid Valve (TRANS1)

   Locate the Range 1 solenoid valve (L52) on the right-hand side of the gearbox/transmission housing.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the L52 solenoid for corrosion, backed-out pins, or physical damage.

   Use a multimeter to test the wiring between the Autotronic 5 (TRANS1) controller and the L52 solenoid for continuity, shorts to ground (0V), and shorts to power (+12V).

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the L52 solenoid coil. A healthy transmission solenoid typically reads around 10 ohms; an infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit (a dead solenoid).

   Check the Range 1 position switch (L56) to ensure it is not stuck, as inconsistency between the switch and the solenoid can also trigger range-related faults.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the range solenoid valve block on the right-hand side of the transmission housing. Clean the area around the valves thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the L52 (Range 1) solenoid valve.

   Removal

   Remove the retaining screws and the flange holding the L52 solenoid valve in place. Carefully pull the solenoid valve out of the compartment.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new L52 valve into the port.

   Reassembly

   Refit the flange and tighten the retaining screws to the specified torque (refer to your specific model's torque specs, generally snug for hydraulic flanges). Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Reconnect the battery. Use a specialized diagnostic tool to clear the 04.03.61 DTC from the Autotronic 5 memory. Start the tractor and shift through all ranges to verify the repair.
