Massey Ferguson 04.03.8A – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS / TRANS1): Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor (TRANS)

The control module is receiving an electrical signal from the clutch pedal sensor (often designated as sensor X68) that falls outside of the expected voltage parameters, indicating a signal voltage that is either too high, too low, an open circuit, or a short circuit to power/ground.

   Visually inspect the clutch pedal sensor (potentiometer/switch) in the pedal box for physical damage, a mechanically stuck sensor arm, or disconnected linkage

   Inspect the electrical connector at the sensor for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins

   Trace the wiring harness back from the pedal box, looking for rub points or broken wires

   Verify the reference voltage supply to the sensor (typically 8.5V or 5V) and check the ground integrity using a multimeter

   Perform a signal sweep test by back-probing the signal wire and slowly depressing the clutch pedal; voltage should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the lower dash or pedal box cover panels inside the cab to gain clear access to the clutch pedal assembly.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the clutch pedal sensor. Remove the retaining screws or mounting bracket holding the sensor/potentiometer to the pedal assembly.

   Installation

   Mount the new OEM clutch pedal sensor in the exact orientation as the old one. Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the battery terminal and reinstall the cab trim panels.

   Calibration

   Use the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu or an AGCO diagnostic tool to run the clutch pedal calibration routine so the TRANS module can learn the new sensor's upper and lower voltage limits.
