Massey Ferguson 04.03.8F – TRANS: Issue With Tyre Size Configuration (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the programmed tire size parameters are missing, invalid, or corrupted. This prevents the transmission system from accurately calculating ground speed, managing automatic shift points, and calculating wheel slip ratios.

Check the cause
Check the physical size of the rear tires currently installed on the tractor (e.g., 650/65R38)
Access the tractor's Datatronic terminal (Datatronic 3, 4, 5, or CCD) or connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to the OBD port
Navigate to the transmission or vehicle configuration menu and check the currently saved tire size, comparing it to the physical tires
Check the battery health and ensure there hasn't been a recent severe voltage drop or dead battery, as configuration data can be lost due to low voltage
Repair steps
Turn the ignition on
Allow the Datatronic terminal / Control Center Display (CCD) to boot up.
Navigate to the vehicle settings/configuration menu
If the setting is accessible via the cab monitor, locate the 'Tyre Size Configuration' parameter.
Connect the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT)
If the setting is locked behind dealer-level access, connect the EDT to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Input the correct tire size
Enter the tire size or rolling circumference that matches the physical rear tires on the machine.
Save the configuration
Save the configuration to the TRANS module.
Clear the fault code
Use the diagnostic tool to clear the 04.03.8F fault code from the system's memory.
Perform a short test drive
Ensure the speedometer reads correctly, the transmission shifts smoothly, and the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(1)Transmission Control Module (TCM / TRANS ECU)
Only required if the transmission controller repeatedly loses its configuration memory after the tractor is shut off due to an internal memory failure. Specific part numbers vary heavily by exact chassis serial number and transmission type.
