Massey Ferguson 04.03.95 – TRANS1: Issue With Range 1 Engaged Switch And Range Solenoid 1

This code indicates a malfunction or communication failure involving the electronic shifting components for Range 1 on the transmission. The system is detecting an irregularity in the signal from the range position switch, the range solenoid, or the circuit connecting them.

   Software Diagnosis (Wintest): Connect the Wintest diagnostic software and navigate to the gearbox tab. Look at the range window to view the status of the solenoid valves and range position sensors. When Range 1 is engaged, the sensor circuit should read as 'open'.

   In-Situ Multimeter Test: If the transmission is still shifting, connect diagnostic harness X899980246204 between the Range 1 sensor and the tractor's main harness. Connect a multimeter between connectors 1 and 2 of the diagnostic harness. Start the engine and activate Range 1. The voltage must read approximately 14V. Activate a different range; the voltage must drop to 0V.

   Bench/Manual Multimeter Test: If the transmission refuses to shift, remove the sensor from the side of the transmission (partially drain the transmission oil if necessary). Connect the diagnostic harness and multimeter as described above. Switch the ignition on. The multimeter should read 0V. Manually press the ball plunger on the sensor; the multimeter should jump to 14V. If it does not, the switch is faulty.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Clean the side of the transmission housing around the solenoid bank to prevent debris from entering the gearbox.

   Drain Fluid

   Depending on the exact location of the Range 1 switch/solenoid on your specific model's transmission block, you may need to partially drain the transmission fluid.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the Range 1 Engaged Switch and Range Solenoid 1. Inspect the harness for corrosion or broken wires.

   If the switch failed the diagnostic test, unthread the switch plunger from the transmission housing. If the solenoid is faulty, unbolt the solenoid valve from the transmission block.

   Thread the new switch or bolt the new solenoid into place. Ensure O-rings/seals are properly seated to prevent leaks.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Refill the transmission fluid to the correct level if any was drained.

   Use the diagnostic tool to clear fault code 04.03.95 and test drive the tractor to ensure Range 1 engages smoothly.
