Massey Ferguson 04.03.9B – TRANS2: Issue With Powershift N Solenoid Supply Voltage

Issue description

Indicates an electrical fault—such as a short circuit, open circuit, or voltage irregularity—in the power supply circuit dedicated to the 'N' solenoid of the Powershift transmission.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the battery and alternator are providing stable voltage, as low or spiking system voltage can trigger false solenoid supply codes.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission solenoids for rubbed-through wires, corrosion at the terminals, or loose connections. Clean terminals with a wire brush and apply dielectric grease.

  3. Test the solenoid by grounding the negative terminals and checking for voltage when the corresponding switch is activated.

  4. Verify the transmission range switches are sending the correct signals to the TRANS2 module.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Solenoids

The range change solenoids on these transmissions (like the Dyna-6) are located externally in a bank of four on the side of the transmission housing.

  2. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector from the Powershift N solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts/hardware holding the solenoid valve in place and carefully pull it out of the transmission block.

  4. Install the New Solenoid

Insert the replacement solenoid (ensure any O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid). Secure the retaining hardware.

  5. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.03.9B DTC from the TRANS2 module. Test drive to ensure the transmission shifts through all ranges smoothly.
