Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness leading to the sensor for moisture intrusion, dirt, and vibration damage. Ensure the connector is clean, dry, and tightly seated.

  2. Check the sensor gap and inspect the tone ring for damage or debris, as the sensor must be positioned correctly to generate an accurate reading.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the tractor's battery before starting work to prevent electrical damage to the transmission modules.

  2. Locate the Sensor

The transmission input shaft speed sensor is typically accessible from underneath the tractor.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the sensor mounting area and the electrical connector to prevent dirt or contaminants from falling into the transmission housing during removal.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Unplug the electrical connector and remove the faulty sensor.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Install the replacement sensor. Ensure it is positioned correctly relative to the tone ring, as the gap is critical for accurate signal generation.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather-resistant seal is intact. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Calibrate

Calibration of the transmission/sensor via a diagnostic tool is typically required after installation for proper operation.
