Massey Ferguson 04.03.A4 – TRANS: Transmission Actuator Position Sensor Fault
Issue description
The Dyna-VT transmission actuator controls the cam channel control shaft, which modifies the hydrostatic pump angle to change the transmission speed and ratio. This fault code indicates that the internal position sensor, which monitors the physical position of this actuator, is sending an irregular, out-of-range, or missing signal to the TRANS module.

Check the cause
Check CAN BUS communication for related codes (such as 04.03.B0) which would indicate a wiring harness or connector issue rather than a failed sensor.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the transmission actuator for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.
Check transmission hydraulics to ensure the transmission oil level is correct and filters are not blocked, as hydraulic pressure issues can sometimes cause actuator positioning faults.
Repair steps
Secure the tractor
Ensure the tractor is at a standstill with the hand brake applied or ParkLock engaged.
Access the actuator
Locate the transmission actuator unit on the side of the Dyna-VT (ML260) transmission housing.
Replace the component
Depending on the specific actuator revision, replace the faulty sensor (if discrete) or the complete transmission actuator assembly if the internal sensor is not serviceable separately.
Perform transmission calibration
Use the dealer diagnostic terminal (EDT) to carry out a systematic transmission calibration procedure. This is a critical step anytime the transmission control module, actuator, or sensors are replaced.
Clear codes and test
Clear the DTCs from the TRANS module and test drive the tractor to ensure full power delivery and smooth ratio changes.
