Massey Ferguson 04.1.03 – TRANS: Issue With Clutch Pedal Safety Start Switch (TRANS)

The controller has detected an implausible signal, open circuit, or short circuit in the safety switch circuit attached to the clutch pedal. This switch acts as a safety interlock to ensure the tractor cannot be started unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed, preventing accidental lurching or movement during engine crank.

   Verify that the clutch pedal moves freely and that the mechanical linkage/fork is actually engaging the safety switch when depressed.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the clutch pedal switch for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wires that may have chafed against the pedal bracket.

   Test the switch for proper continuity changes when the pedal is actuated. Check for a faulty voltage supply (often an 8.5V or 12V reference circuit) and verify associated cab fuses.

   Look for related code 04.1.04 ('Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor'), which often accompanies this fault if the potentiometer/sensor itself has failed.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent short circuits.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the clutch pedal safety start switch/sensor, which is mounted on the clutch pedal pivot bracket assembly under the dash/cab floor.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector. Remove the mounting screws/bolts and extract the switch (and the sensor fork, if applicable to your specific model).

   Install the New Part

   Mount the new safety switch/sensor into the bracket, ensuring the mechanical linkage aligns correctly with the pedal pivot. Secure the hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Recalibrate the Clutch Pedal

   Reconnect the battery. Because the transmission module relies on precise voltage sweeps from the pedal, installing a new sensor will often trigger a calibration fault (e.g., code 04.03.ED - Clutch Pedal Not Calibrated). You must perform a clutch pedal calibration using the tractor's onboard diagnostic screen (Dot Matrix display) or via the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT).
