Massey Ferguson 04.1.0B – Transmission Control Module (TRANS or TRANS1): Forward Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue
Issue description
The transmission control system has detected that the electrical current (amperage) flowing through the forward clutch solenoid circuit is outside the expected operating parameters. This typically indicates either a high amp draw (often caused by an internal short circuit in the solenoid coil) or a low amp draw (often caused by high resistance, a failing coil, or a wiring issue).

Check the cause
Ensure the tractor's battery is fully charged and the system voltage is stable, as low voltage under load can cause erratic solenoid amp draw readings.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the TRANS1 module to the transmission valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or corroded connector pins.
Perform a component swap test by swapping the forward clutch solenoid with the reverse clutch solenoid. Clear the codes and operate the tractor. If the fault code changes to a Reverse Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue, the solenoid is faulty. If the code remains 04.1.0B, the issue is in the wiring harness or the Transmission Control Module.

Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and allow the tractor to sit so hydraulic pressure in the transmission circuit can dissipate.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission hydraulic control valve block (typically mounted on the side of the transmission housing). Identify the forward clutch solenoid.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt or debris from contaminating the transmission's hydraulic circuits.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem, or unscrew the entire solenoid cartridge valve (depending on your specific valve block design).
Installation
Install the new solenoid. If replacing a cartridge valve, ensure the O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid. Tighten to the specified torque.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the weather seal is intact.
Calibration
Start the tractor and warm up the transmission fluid. You must perform a transmission calibration (clutch fill / progressivity calibration) via the tractor's dashboard screen to ensure smooth engagement of the new forward clutch solenoid.
