04.1.15

Massey Ferguson 04.1.15 – TRANS (Transmission): Gear Lever Clutch Button Signal Received For Over 10 Seconds

Issue description

This code triggers when the transmission controller detects a continuous, uninterrupted electrical signal from the de-clutch button (the button located on the gear lever used for clutchless gear changes) for more than 10 seconds. This typically indicates that the button is physically stuck in the depressed position, the internal switch contacts have failed closed, or there is a short-circuit in the wiring harness keeping the signal active.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the gear lever clutch button to see if it is physically jammed, sticky, or packed with dirt/debris preventing it from springing back out.

  2. Disconnect the switch wiring and use a multimeter to test the button's continuity. The circuit should only close when the button is actively pressed. If it shows continuity without being pressed, the switch is internally shorted.

  3. Trace the wiring down the gear lever shaft to the transmission module. Look for pinched, frayed, or exposed wires that may be shorting to ground or power, falsely sending the signal to the TRANS module.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Depending on the exact model, either pry the button housing out of the gear lever knob or remove the gear lever knob assembly entirely (some knobs thread off, while others have set screws).

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical connector attaching the button to the gear lever wiring harness.

  4. Replace the Button/Knob

Connect the new OEM gear lever button to the wiring harness.

  5. Reassemble

Seat the new button or knob back into the gear lever housing securely.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTC 04.1.15 from the TRANS module. Test the clutchless shifting operation to ensure the code does not return.
