Massey Ferguson 04.1.C1 – Transmission Module (TRANS): Shuttle Lever Neutral Position Signal Error (TRANS)
Issue description
Indicates that the onboard diagnostic system has detected an irregularity, malfunction, or missing signal from the shuttle lever's neutral position sensor or potentiometer. This can prevent the engine from starting, lock out direction changes, cause delayed/jerky shifting, or flash indicator lights.

Check the cause
Check mechanical detents to ensure the shuttle lever positively engages the neutral position, as worn detents or sloppy linkages can prevent full switch activation.
Test the shuttle position potentiometer or safety switch for the correct voltage sweep and continuity.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the shuttle lever switch and the transmission controller for moisture, dirt, hydraulic fluid contamination, or broken wires.
Repair steps
Access the Switch
Remove the steering column console covers (for electronic column-mounted shuttles) or access the right-hand side transmission cover (for older electric shuttle variants) to reach the shuttle lever assembly.
Inspect and Replace
If the lever has excessive physical play or the internal electrical contacts are failing, remove the mounting screws/bracket and disconnect the coiled wire connector. Install the new shuttle lever or safety switch.
Adjust the Sensor
If replacing a transmission-mounted shuttle potentiometer, ensure the correct voltage is set upon installation so the controller accurately reads the neutral position.
Reassemble
Clean and lubricate all pivot points during assembly, then reinstall the console covers.
Calibrate the Transmission
Perform a shuttle/transmission calibration procedure. For many Autotronic/Dyna transmissions, this involves shifting the Power Shuttle lever to neutral to validate the calibration and waiting for the range indicator lights to stop flashing.
Clear Codes
Use a specialized diagnostic tool to clear the 04.1.C1 DTC from the transmission module.
