Massey Ferguson 04.2.15 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Gear Lever Clutch Button Signal Received For Over 10 Seconds

The transmission controller is receiving a continuous "pressed" signal from the clutch de-clutch button located on the main gear shift lever for an abnormal duration (more than 10 seconds). This is typically caused by operator error (resting a hand heavily on the button), a physically stuck button, or an electrical short in the switch/wiring.

   Ensure the operator is not inadvertently resting their hand on the gear lever clutch button or holding it down for extended periods while shifting.

   Press and release the gear lever clutch button to check if it feels sticky, lacks spring return, or is jammed by dirt or debris.

   Disconnect the switch at the gear lever harness and use a multimeter to test for continuity. It should only show continuity when actively pressed. If it shows continuity when released, the switch has failed internally.

   Inspect the wiring harness running down the gear stick and into the side console for chafing, pinched wires, or a short-to-voltage that could be sending a false continuous signal to the TRANS module.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry off the cap or split the casing of the main gear shift knob (procedure varies slightly by exact cab trim) to expose the internal clutch button switch.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the small electrical connector attaching the button switch to the gear lever wiring harness.

   Replace

   Remove the faulty switch/button assembly and seat the new OEM replacement switch into the housing.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness and snap the gear lever knob casing back together. Ensure no wires are pinched in the plastic housing.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the stored 04.2.15 DTC from the Transmission module.

   Test

   Start the tractor and test the de-clutch button operation through several gear changes to ensure the code does not return.
