Massey Ferguson 04.2.FE – Transmission Module (TRANS) / Autotronic 5 Transmission Controller: Issue With Transmission Module Calibrations Or Parameters
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the pedal, valve, or load defaults have not been calibrated, the calibration process was interrupted/exited prematurely, or there is an internal memory failure regarding the transmission parameters.

Check the cause
Verify if recent repairs were made to the Power Shuttle solenoid valve, control unit, Power Shuttle unit, or Autotronic 5 Transmission controller, as these mandate a calibration.
Check transmission fluid temperature (must be between 35°C and 45°C, or 15°C to 60°C depending on the specific model).
Check for other active transmission or sensor fault codes that could prevent the calibration process from initiating.
Repair steps
Preparation
Position the tractor on flat ground. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is within the required range (you can engage the PTO while parked to help warm up the transmission fluid).
Warm-up the Solenoids
Before starting the calibration, move the PowerShuttle lever 10 times in each direction (forward and reverse), leaving the lever in each position for 5 to 10 seconds. This brings the control unit and solenoid valves up to the temperature of the transmission.
Reset Progressivity
On the dash control center, configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) all to '0'.
Initiate Calibration Mode
Disengage the PTO, place the tractor in neutral, and release the park brake. Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM. Raise the PowerShuttle arm to the raised position (left of the steering wheel) and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch. Hold both for approximately 10 seconds, or until the right-hand transmission gear screen displays 'Ct'.
Run Calibration
Once 'Ct' is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position. The calibration will begin automatically.
Wait
The screen will continuously show 'Ct' for approximately 10 minutes. It is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.
Completion
Once complete, the screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A').
Save Settings
Place the PowerShuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off to confirm and save the new changes.
Validation
Restart the tractor and test drive it using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to ensure shifting is smooth and the fault code has cleared.
Parts you might need
(1)Transmission Control Module (TCM) / Autotronic 5 Transmission Controller
4277711M94Part numbers vary heavily by the specific tractor series and transmission type. You will need to pull the specific hardware/software version directly off the existing Autotronic 5 module (CAB151) to order the exact replacement for the machine's VIN. A new transmission controller must be calibrated immediately after installation.
