04.X.04

Massey Ferguson 04.X.04 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS / TCU): Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor (TRANS)

Issue description

The controller is receiving an erratic, out-of-range (too high or too low), or missing electrical voltage signal from the clutch pedal position sensor (often designated as sensor X68 or the Bottom of Clutch switch). This can cause harsh or jumpy clutch engagement, inconsistent direction selection, or a complete loss of drive.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the clutch pedal sensor inside the pedal box and inspect the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, broken wires, or a short circuit to +12V or ground.

  2. Attempt a clutch pedal calibration, especially on newer models, as the pedal's voltage sweep may have simply drifted out of learned parameters.

  3. Check the sensor's voltage sweep with a multimeter or diagnostic tool to verify if it has dead spots or is stuck open.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Sensor

Remove the lower dash/pedal box trim panels inside the cab to access the clutch pedal linkage.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the clutch pedal sensor / BOC switch.

  3. Remove

Unbolt or unclip the faulty sensor/switch from the pedal bracket assembly.

  4. Install

Mount the new OEM clutch pedal sensor into the bracket and ensure it properly aligns with the pedal linkage.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

  6. Calibrate

Turn on the tractor and perform a transmission/clutch calibration procedure.
