Massey Ferguson 04.X.06 – TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor (TRANS)

The control module detects that the voltage signal coming from the foot throttle position sensor (potentiometer) is outside the expected operating range. The tractor will usually default to a limp or limited RPM mode, or it may refuse to respond to foot throttle inputs entirely.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the foot throttle pedal for micro-cracks, chafing, dirt, or corrosion.

   Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving a steady 5V reference signal and a solid ground from the control module.

   Back-probe the signal wire with a multimeter or electronic service tool and perform a signal sweep test by slowly depressing the pedal. The voltage should increase smoothly without dropouts, erratic jumps, or dead spots.

   Check the continuity of the signal wire from the pedal connector all the way back to the Transmission Control Unit pins to rule out a broken trace or harness short.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle assembly in the cab. Depending on the model, you may need to remove the lower dash trim or floor matting to access the mounting bolts and connector.

   Clean or Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed corrosion, clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner. If a wire is chafed, repair the harness using proper soldering and heat-shrink tubing.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the potentiometer failed the sweep test, unbolt the faulty foot pedal/sensor assembly and install the replacement unit.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor and reconnect the battery.

   Calibrate and Clear Codes

   Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.X.06 inactive code from the TRANS module. Some models require a pedal calibration routine via the tractor's dashboard terminal or service tool to learn the new 0% and 100% voltage limits.
