Massey Ferguson 04.X.13 – Transmission Module (TRANS1 or TRANS): Reverse Clutch Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit responsible for actuating the reverse clutch. The system cannot detect the solenoid, which is usually caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burned-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Check the reverse clutch solenoid connector on the transmission block for disconnected plugs, corrosion, or water ingress.
Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness routing from the TRANS1 module to the transmission for rub points, pinched wires, or breaks.
Resistance Test: Unplug the reverse clutch solenoid and measure the resistance across the coil pins with a multimeter. A healthy transmission solenoid of this type typically reads around 10 Ohms. If it reads 'OL' (Open Loop / infinite resistance), the solenoid coil has failed internally.
Ground & Power Integrity: Verify that the circuit has a solid ground and that the controller is sending voltage to the plug when the shuttle lever is shifted into reverse.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the TRANS1 module.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the reverse clutch solenoid on the side of the transmission control valve block.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, splice and seal the wiring harness using weather-resistant connectors.
Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, unplug the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut/fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem (or unthread the cartridge valve, depending on the specific transmission block).
Install New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil into place and secure it. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the tractor's onboard diagnostic display (or a dealer service tool) to clear the inactive 04.X.13 code.
Test
Start the tractor and test the forward/reverse power shuttle operation to ensure smooth engagement.
