Massey Ferguson 04.X.15 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS or TRANS2): Gear Lever Clutch Button Signal Received For Over 10 Seconds (TRANS) / Transmission Pressure Switch Open When Engine Is Running (TRANS2)

The transmission control system is detecting an open circuit at the transmission pressure switch while the engine is actively running. This means the controller is not seeing the expected hydraulic pressure signal, which could be caused by an actual loss of transmission hydraulic pressure, a failed pressure switch stuck in the "open" position, or a broken/disconnected wire in the sensor circuit.

   Verify that the transmission/hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that the filters are not clogged, as low fluid can cause a genuine low-pressure condition

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Transmission Pressure Switch and the TRANS2 module for chafed wires, disconnected plugs, or corrosion that could cause an open circuit

   Unplug the switch and test continuity with a multimeter. The switch should close when the engine is running and hydraulic pressure is applied. If it remains open under pressure, the switch has failed internally

   If the switch and wiring test fine, connect a mechanical hydraulic pressure gauge to the transmission test port to verify if the transmission pump is actually generating the required pressure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure

   if required by the service manual.

   Locate the transmission pressure switch

   typically located on the side of the transmission housing or on the power shift manifold.

   Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector from the switch.

   Using a deep socket or wrench, unscrew the faulty pressure switch.

   Have a rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may leak out.

   Thread the new transmission pressure switch into the port.

   Tighten to the OEM torque specification (do not overtighten, as these are often brass or hollow-bodied switches).

   Reconnect the electrical harness

   ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Top up the transmission fluid

   if any was lost during the swap.

   Start the engine, check for leaks around the new switch, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.X.15 fault code.
