Massey Ferguson 04.X.16 – Transmission Module (TRANS) / Autotronic 4: Transmission Module Low Supply Voltage (TRANS)
Issue description
This indicates that the transmission controller's internal supply voltage (often the 5-volt or 8-volt regulator circuit) has dropped below the acceptable lower limit, or the direct battery supply voltage to the module is too low.

Check the cause
Check Battery & Alternator: Verify that the base battery voltage is sufficient and that the alternator regulator output is within normal operating range.
Inspect Wiring & Fuses: Check the main wiring harnesses for damage, chafing, or corrosion. Inspect all fuses related to the transmission control circuit.
Verify Power and Ground: Test the physical connection of the transmission controller to its power and ground sources using a multimeter.
Service Tool Monitoring: Connect the Massey Ferguson diagnostic service tool. Open the MONITOR window and select TRANS BATTERY VOLTAGE to see what voltage the controller is actually receiving/reading.
Repair steps
Perform diagnostic checks
Perform the diagnostic checks above to rule out a dead battery, failing alternator, or corroded ground wire.
Diagnose internal failure
If the external power and ground levels are correct but the controller is still registering a low internal voltage (e.g., the +5V regulator is out of range low), the controller has suffered an internal failure.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Disconnect harnesses
Locate the Transmission Controller (Autotronic module) and carefully disconnect the CAN network and power harnesses.
Replace controller
Remove the faulty controller and install the replacement unit.
Reconnect components
Reconnect the harnesses and the battery.
Calibrate new controller
A new transmission controller will likely require dealer-level calibration (such as clutch calibration and armrest lever calibration) using the Massey Ferguson service tool to pair it with the tractor's CAN bus system.
