04.X.23

Massey Ferguson 04.X.23 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Cruise Control Button Signal Issue (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission ECU is receiving an irregular, missing, or implausible signal from the cruise control buttons (typically the C1/C2 preset speed buttons) located on the armrest.

  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716

  • 7718
  • 7718S

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the C1/C2 cruise control buttons on the armrest Multipad lever or the multifunction joystick for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing normal operation.

  2. Check the wiring harness exiting the armrest and the main cab-to-transmission connectors for chafing, pinched wires, or corrosion.

  3. Use a multimeter or a dealer diagnostic tool (like AGCO EDT) to monitor the live data for the cruise control switch. Press the buttons to see if the state changes. If the signal reads as constantly 'pressed' or 'open circuit,' the switch or the Multipad assembly has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Armrest Controls

Carefully pry up or unscrew the upper trim panel of the right-hand control armrest to expose the mounting hardware for the Multipad lever/joystick.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the multi-pin electrical connectors at the base of the Multipad. Inspect the pins on the harness side to ensure they are not bent or corroded.

  4. Remove and Replace

Unbolt the faulty Multipad assembly and install the new unit.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the locking tabs click into place. Reinstall the armrest trim.

  6. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on, clear the 04.X.23 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and test drive the tractor to ensure the C1/C2 cruise control speeds can be set and maintained without triggering the code.
