Massey Ferguson 04.X.49 – TRANS: Transmission Filter Blockage Sensor Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
This code indicates that the system is receiving an irregular signal, or no signal, from the transmission filter blockage sensor (X20). The underlying condition could be an actual severe restriction/blockage in the transmission hydraulic filter, highly contaminated hydraulic oil, or an electrical fault such as a short circuit, open wire, or failed sensor.

Check the cause
Check the transmission hydraulic oil filter for genuine blockage and inspect hydraulic oil level and condition.
Inspect the X20 sensor wiring harness and connector (located on the right-hand side of the gearbox) for chafing, corrosion, or loose connections.
Test the sensor circuit for continuity and verify it is receiving the correct reference voltage (8.5V or 12V) from the transmission module.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Ensure the machine is safely secured before beginning work.
Locate the transmission filter housing and the X20 filter blockage sensor.
These are located on the side of the transmission block.
Place a drain pan underneath the filter housing.
This will catch any residual hydraulic oil during the repair.
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the X20 sensor.
Carefully unplug the connector to avoid damaging the wiring.
Unscrew and remove the faulty X20 sensor from the housing.
Remove the sensor from the transmission block.
Remove the transmission filter housing cover, extract the old transmission filter, and install a new OEM filter.
Highly recommended to ensure a physical blockage isn't causing the fault.
Thread the new X20 transmission filter blockage sensor into place.
Tighten the sensor to the manufacturer's torque specification.
Reconnect the electrical harness to the sensor.
Ensure the connection is secure.
Top up the transmission/hydraulic oil to the correct level.
Use Massey Ferguson approved fluid to replace any lost oil.
Start the tractor, check for leaks, and clear the DTC.
Check the sensor and filter housing for leaks, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.X.49 DTC from the TRANS module.
