Massey Ferguson 04.X.58 – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS): Possible Transmission Slippage Detected

Triggered when the onboard diagnostic system detects that the transmission output speed does not match the expected value for the selected gear and engine speed, indicating that internal clutches, gears, or hydrostatic components are slipping.

   Check the transmission/hydraulic oil level and condition for low pressure, milky appearance (water contamination), burnt smell (burnt clutches), or excessive metal filings.

   Inspect the high-pressure transmission oil filter blockage indicator on the dash. Drain a small amount of oil and check the transmission mesh filter for shiny, hardened metal particulates.

   Conduct a visual inspection of all wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the transmission control module and solenoids for corrosion or damage.

   For Dyna-6 transmissions specifically, test the range change solenoids and their associated switches on the side of the transmission, as they are highly prone to failure and can mimic internal slippage.

   Drain and Inspect

   Drain the transmission oil. Carefully inspect the drained fluid and the mesh filter for metal shavings. If heavy metal contamination is found, a full transmission teardown or Vario module replacement (for Dyna-VT) will be required.

   Replace Solenoids (If Faulty)

   Locate the range change solenoid bank on the side of the transmission. Disconnect the wiring harness, unbolt the faulty solenoid(s) or switch(es), and install the replacements.

   Replace Filters

   Remove and replace the high-pressure transmission oil filter.

   Refill Fluid

   Refill the system with the correct OEM-specified transmission/hydraulic fluid (e.g., AGCO V-TRANS PLUS or SAE 15W40 complying with MF CMS M1145).

   Transmission Calibration

   Warm the tractor up. Hold the specific calibration buttons on the console for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand dash screen displays 'Ct'. Place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to begin. The tractor will shift through gears automatically (making normal shifting noises) for about 10 minutes. Once the screen displays the gear ratio (e.g., '1A/2A'), place the PowerShuttle in neutral, disengage the differential lock, idle down, and turn the engine off to save the settings. Restart and test drive using various maneuvers to ensure smooth shifting.
