Massey Ferguson 04.X.64 – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS / TCU): Transmission Turbo Clutch Solenoid Voltage Supply Issue

An electrical failure—specifically a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) supply failure, an illogical power consumption reading, a short circuit, or an open circuit in the voltage supply to the Y004 turbo-clutch solenoid valve.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Transmission ECU and the Y004 solenoid for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Disconnect the Y004 solenoid and measure the internal resistance of the coil to check for an internal short circuit.

   Using a multimeter or oscilloscope, verify that the Transmission ECU is sending the correct PWM voltage signal to the solenoid when the engine is running.

   Locate the Solenoid

   The Y004 Turbo-Clutch Solenoid Valve is located on the transmission valve block. On many models, this block is situated on the right side of the transmission. Accessing it typically requires removing the right rear wheel and the corresponding side panel.

   Disconnect Power

   Ensure the tractor is turned off and battery power is disconnected to prevent shorting any transmission control circuits.

   Remove the Faulty Valve

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Y004 solenoid. Remove the retaining hardware and carefully pull the solenoid valve from the transmission block. Be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic oil.

   Install the New Valve

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the valve block and torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reinstall the side panel and the right rear wheel.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Use an AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to clear the 04.X.64 fault code. Perform a test drive to ensure the transmission builds high pressure correctly and the turbo-clutch engages smoothly without throwing the code again.
