Massey Ferguson 04.X.6B – TRANS1: Issue With Range 1 Engaged Switch Signal

Triggers when the transmission controller commands a shift into Range 1, but does not receive the correct electrical confirmation signal from the Range 1 position switch indicating that the gear range has successfully engaged.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the specific connector for the Range 1 switch for physical damage, chafing, or corrosion.

   Test the Range 1 switch for continuity using a multimeter to check if it opens and closes properly when shifted into Range 1.

   Verify that the Range 1 solenoid is receiving voltage and operating correctly, as a failed solenoid will prevent the switch from being triggered.

   Clear the DTC codes using a diagnostic tool or dash sequence to determine if the code is an active hard fault or an intermittent stored code.

   Locate the Switch

   Identify the Range 1 Engaged Switch on the side of the transmission housing (typically grouped with the other range switches and solenoids).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits.

   Remove the Connector

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Unscrew the faulty switch plunger from the transmission housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid may weep from the port.

   Install the New Switch

   Thread the new OEM switch into the housing. Ensure any provided O-rings or sealing washers are seated correctly to prevent leaks. Do not overtighten.

   Reconnect and Calibrate

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Power on the tractor, clear the stored 04.X.6B fault code, and test drive the tractor through all ranges to ensure Range 1 engages smoothly and the code does not return.
