Massey Ferguson 04.X.6D – TRANS1: Issue With Range 3 Engaged Switch Signal

   Monitor the live voltage/signal from the Range 3 switch using a multimeter or diagnostic tool while attempting to shift into Range 3.

   Check for mechanical blockage or internal transmission binding preventing the physical shift rail/fork from fully engaging Range 3 (which would cause the switch to read an incomplete shift).

   Verify that the TRANS1 module is communicating properly with the dash and other modules.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the Range 3 transmission range position switch on the exterior of the transmission housing (exact location varies slightly by series; consult your specific model's service manual).

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor base to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing when the sensor is removed.

   Unscrew the faulty transmission range switch from the housing. Have a shop rag ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid may weep from the port.

   Installation

   Thread the new OEM transmission range switch into the housing and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 04.X.6D / 04.02.6D fault code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and cycle the transmission through all ranges, specifically verifying that Range 3 engages smoothly without triggering the code.
