Massey Ferguson 04.X.8F – TRANS: Issue With Tyre Size Configuration
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the programmed tyre size parameters are missing, invalid, or do not correlate with the expected wheel speed sensor data.

Check the cause
Verify physical tyre size by checking the actual dimensions of the front and rear tyres installed on the tractor (e.g., 650/85R38, 600/65R38).
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool and navigate to the transmission (TRANS) module parameters to check configuration data.
Compare the current 'Tyre size, configuration' value stored in the TRANS module to see if it has been wiped, corrupted, or set incorrectly compared to the physical tyres.
Inspect wheel speed sensors to ensure there are no accompanying wheel speed sensor faults (such as 04.X.82 or 04.X.83) which could confuse the controller.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic interface
Connect your diagnostic interface to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Boot diagnostic software
Boot up the diagnostic software (e.g., OHW 18.0.0 or OEM equivalent) and perform a total vehicle diagnosis.
Access TRANS module settings
Access the TRANS (Transmission) module settings.
Locate configuration function
Locate the "Tyre size, configuration" function under the parameterizations/configuration menu.
Input tyre size
Input the correct rolling circumference or standard tyre size designation that matches the physical tyres on the machine.
Save configuration
Save the configuration to the module.
Cycle ignition
Cycle the tractor's ignition (key off, wait for the modules to power down, key on).
Clear fault code
Clear the 04.X.8F fault code from the TRANS module.
Test drive
Test drive the tractor to ensure the transmission shifts correctly and the code does not return. (Note: If the module repeatedly loses this configuration upon restart, the Transmission Controller itself may be suffering from an internal memory failure and will require replacement or a software re-flash).
