Massey Ferguson 04.X.98 – TRANS1: Issue With Range 4 Engaged Switch And Range Solenoid 4

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the transmission control valve block for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins leading to Range Solenoid 4 and its switch.

   Disconnect the solenoid and measure resistance across the coil pins with a multimeter, comparing to OEM specs to check for an open circuit or short to ground.

   Test the Range 4 engaged switch for continuity when manually actuated to verify if the switch has failed.

   Verify that the valve block is receiving adequate hydraulic pressure to physically engage the range, assuming the electrical circuit is intact.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Unplug the electrical connector from Range Solenoid 4.

   Removal

   Remove the retaining bolt or clip securing the solenoid to the valve block. Carefully pull the solenoid valve straight out. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid will leak out.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new valve into the block and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
