04.X.A1

Massey Ferguson 04.X.A1 – TRANS: Issue With Transmission Actuator Internal Position Sensor (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission controller is receiving an implausible signal, an out-of-range value, or no signal from the internal position sensor of the transmission actuator, which electronically controls gear/range selection.

Check the cause

  1. Check fuse F40 (15 A Min) to verify the power supply to the transmission actuator.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the transmission actuator for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage (poor connections can also trigger CAN BUS code 04.X.A2).

  3. Attempt a transmission calibration via the tractor terminal (CAL1 screen). Press 'OK' to start, engine speed will adjust to 1100 rpm, and it will last approximately 2 minutes. If calibration fails or aborts, the internal sensor is likely permanently failed.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park lock, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Actuator

Locate the transmission actuator on the side of the DYNA VT transmission housing.

  3. Removal

Disconnect the multi-pin electrical connector from the actuator. Remove the mounting bolts securing the actuator to the transmission block and carefully pull the actuator away.

  4. Installation

Clean the mating surface on the transmission. Install the new transmission actuator (ensure any required O-rings or seals are in place and lubricated). Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications as outlined in the workshop manual.

  5. Reconnection

Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.

  6. Post-Repair Calibration

You must perform a transmission calibration via the tractor terminal so the TRANS module can learn the end-stops and adaptation values of the new actuator's position sensor.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Transmission Actuator / Transmission Actuator Internal Position Sensor (DYNA VT)

Must be specified for the DYNA VT transmission. Do not substitute with Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 range solenoids. Always use genuine AGCO parts for transmission control components to ensure successful calibration.
