Massey Ferguson 04.X.A5 – TRANS: Issue With Transmission Actuator Internal Position Sensor (TRANS)

Issue description

Malfunction or irregular reading from the internal position sensor located inside the transmission actuator unit.

Check CAN BUS communication by verifying the wiring harness and connectors for the transmission actuator.
Verify the signal voltage from the transmission actuator to rule out a simple wiring short or open circuit.
Attempt to run the transmission calibrations via the tractor terminal to see if the position sensor can be successfully relearned before condemning the actuator.

Locate actuator
Locate the transmission actuator unit on the DYNA VT transmission housing.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness connecting the actuator to the CAN BUS and TRANS module.
Remove actuator
Unbolt and remove the faulty transmission actuator unit.
Install actuator
Install the new transmission actuator and reconnect the electrical harness.
Perform calibration
After replacing the actuator, you must perform the transmission calibration procedure. There are 4 specific transmission calibrations required for the transmission actuator.
Run calibrations
Access the Tractor Terminal, navigate to the calibration control screen, and run the transmission actuator calibrations.
Save calibration data
Once the calibration runs are complete (takes about 5 minutes), switch OFF the ignition for at least 8 seconds to validate and save the calibration data.

Transmission Actuator Unit (DYNA VT)
Ensure the actuator is specifically for the DYNA VT transmission, as the 7600 series was also offered with Dyna-6 transmissions which use different control mechanisms.
