Massey Ferguson 04.X.B0 – Transmission Controller (TRANS) / EXT Lite transmission controller: Issue With Transmission Actuator Communication On CAN BUS (TRANS)

The CAN (Controller Area Network) data bus communication between the transmission controller and the transmission actuator has been interrupted, is missing, or is failing. The controller is unable to send or receive the necessary signals to operate the transmission actuator properly.

   Check CAN Bus Terminators: The tractor is equipped with two CAN bus terminators used to stabilize the data bus system (one located on the engine by the engine controller, and the other in the cab behind the standard instrumentation controller). Bench test the terminators by supplying 12 volts to terminal 1 to ensure they are functioning correctly.

   Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the CAN network wiring harness between the transmission controller and the transmission actuator. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins in the connectors.

   Check for Related Codes: Look for secondary codes (such as T41A2, T41A3, or T41A4) which indicate that the CAN network control is interrupted or that the transmission control module position sensor signals are illogical.

   Isolate the CAN Bus

   Disconnect the batteries. Access the wiring harness connecting the transmission controller to the transmission actuator.

   Repair Wiring

   If any physical damage, corrosion, or continuity issues are found in the CAN bus lines, repair or replace the affected wiring harness sections. Clean all connector pins with contact cleaner and ensure they are seated tightly.

   Replace Terminators

   If either of the CAN bus terminators failed the bench test, replace the faulty terminator.

   Replace the Actuator

   If the wiring, connectors, and terminators are all in good working order, the transmission actuator has likely suffered an internal module failure causing it to drop off the CAN network. Replace the transmission actuator.

   Calibrate the Transmission

   If the transmission actuator or controller is replaced, or if the software is flashed/updated, you must perform a transmission calibration using the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool).
