04.X.E2

Massey Ferguson 04.X.E2 – TRANS: Transmission Internal Software Issue

Issue description

The transmission module has detected an internal software anomaly, memory fault, or programming error. This can be caused by a software glitch, a failed module update, or a drop in supply voltage that corrupted the module's operating memory.

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage, alternator output, and inspect the wiring harness and connectors providing power and ground to the TRANS module (low supply voltage can cause internal software faults)

  2. Clear the DTCs using a diagnostic tool and cycle the tractor's ignition to see if the 04.X.E2 code is an active hard fault or a stored historical glitch

  3. Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to verify the current software version on the transmission module and check if there is a known OEM patch or update available

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug the AGCO EDT (or equivalent capable scanner) into the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Verify Power

Ensure the tractor is supplying a steady 12V+ to the transmission module. Repair any corroded grounds or damaged power wires.

  3. Reflash / Update Software

Attempt to reflash or update the transmission module's software using the dealer diagnostic tool.

  4. Module Replacement (If Reflash Fails)

If the diagnostic tool cannot communicate with the module, the reflash fails, or the 04.X.E2 code immediately returns after a successful flash, the module has suffered an internal hardware/memory failure.

  5. Install New Module

Disconnect the battery, remove the faulty transmission module, and install the replacement.

  6. Calibrate

A new transmission module will require programming and transmission calibration (clutch bite points, range shifts) via the diagnostic tool before the tractor can be operated.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Transmission Control Module (TCM) / Autotronic Transmission Controller

Verify part against tractor's serial number. Blank OEM modules must be flashed by an authorized dealer.

  • Transmission Control ECU

    3387338M02

    For older 3000/3600 series

  • Case Assy / Module components

    4301307M2

    For 5400 series Dyna-4
