Check the cause

  1. Verify the transmission module supply voltage. Low voltage to the module can cause the processor to glitch and throw internal software codes.

  2. Connect a specialized diagnostic tool (e.g., Massey Ferguson EDT or TEXA OFF-HIGHWAY) to retrieve active and stored transmission codes.

  3. Check for accompanying CAN BUS communication error codes, as network interruptions can mimic internal software failures.

  4. Use the diagnostic software to check the current software version on the TRANS module and see if an OEM update or patch is available.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Using your diagnostic tool, clear the DTCs to see if the 04.X.E6 code was triggered by a temporary voltage drop or intermittent glitch.

  2. Reflash/Update Software

If the code is hard/active, use the Massey Ferguson EDT to reflash the Transmission Control Module with the latest OEM software.

  3. Recalibrate the Transmission

After a software reflash, you must run the transmission calibration routines. Use the diagnostic tool to perform the Drive Pedal Calibration, Clutch Pedal Calibration, and Transmission Turbo Clutch Calibration.

  4. Test Drive

Monitor live transmission data during acceleration and deceleration to ensure the software is correctly commanding the transmission actuators.

  5. Module Replacement (If Necessary)

If the module refuses to accept the software update, or if the internal software issue code immediately returns after a successful reflash, the Transmission Control Module has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
