Massey Ferguson 04.X.F1 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS / TCU): Transmission Calibration Issue (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission control system has detected an incomplete, failed, or out-of-spec calibration sequence, or that the transmission requires a recalibration due to component wear, fluid changes, or sensor replacement.

Check the cause
Verify transmission fluid temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F); calibration will fail if fluid is outside this range
Check the transmission input shaft speed sensors and range position sensors using a multimeter or diagnostic tool (Wintest)
Ensure the clutch pedal itself is calibrated and not logging separate faults (e.g., 04.X.ED)
Perform a warm-up cycle by activating the PowerShuttle forward and reverse 10 times in each direction for 5-10 seconds to ensure the solenoid valves and control units are warmed up to the transmission fluid temperature
Repair steps
Preparation
Position the tractor on flat ground. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is between 35°C and 45°C (viewable on 'diagnostic screen 1' in the Dash Control Center). You can engage the PTO to help warm up the fluid.
Reset Settings
Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings (forward engagement, reverse engagement, and ratio shifting sensitivity) all to '0' on the left-hand dash screen.
Positioning
Disengage the PTO, place the tractor in neutral, and release the park brake.
Initiate Calibration Mode
Raise the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM. Raise the PowerShuttle arm to the raised position (left of the steering wheel) and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch. Hold both for about 10 seconds until the right-hand transmission gear screen displays 'Ct'.
Start Calibration
Once 'Ct' is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position. The calibration will begin automatically.
Wait
The process takes approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously show 'Ct', and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises.
Completion
When finished, the right-hand screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., '1A/2A' or '1E/2E').
Save Settings
Place the PowerShuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off to confirm and save the new changes.
Validation
Restart the tractor and test drive using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to ensure shifting is smooth and the fault code has cleared.
