Massey Ferguson 04.X.F2 – Transmission Module (TRANS): Transmission Calibration Issue (TRANS)

Triggered when the transmission calibration process has failed, is incomplete, or has not been performed after a repair or component replacement.

   Ensure the tractor is parked on completely flat ground.

   Verify transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) (or 15°C to 60°C) via the dash diagnostic screen.

   Engage the PTO to help warm up the transmission fluid if it is too cold.

   Cycle the PowerShuttle lever 10 times in each direction (forward and reverse), leaving it in each position for 5 to 10 seconds to warm up the control unit and solenoid valves.

   Ensure the differential lock and front axle (4WD) are disengaged so they do not interfere with the calibration process.

   Prepare tractor

   With the tractor running on flat ground, place the transmission in neutral and release the parking brake.

   Increase engine speed

   Increase the engine speed to approximately 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM).

   Engage controls

   Raise the PowerShuttle arm to the 'raised' position (located to the left of the steering wheel) and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.

   Enter calibration mode

   Hold both controls for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand instrument panel displays 'Ct' (Calibration mode).

   Initiate calibration

   Once 'Ct' is displayed, move the PowerShuttle arm into the forward position to initiate the calibration.

   Wait for calibration

   The tractor will automatically calibrate the clutches. This takes several minutes. It is completely normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.

   Verify completion

   Once complete, the screen will stop displaying 'Ct' and will show the transmission ratio (e.g., '1A/2A').

   Save settings

   Place the PowerShuttle back into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off to confirm and save the new parameters.

9. 9

   Validate calibration

   Restart the tractor and validate the calibration by performing various forward and reverse maneuvers to ensure shifting is smooth.
